This is an idea for a project that links school children to each other by having them run the distance between where they live and have them meet up virtually.

We are a group of year 7 and 8 pupils from Freeville School in Christchurch New Zealand.

At the end of 2007 we ran the distance from Christchurch to Palmerston North. If you are interested in having your class run to meet us then email

We are using to calculate the distances.

Here is the track we are running at our school.

This is a team project so for every person who runs 1km we record 1km. For example if all 60 children in our class run 4 laps of our 500m track then each will have run 2 km and all together we will have run 120 km.

Individual students can also track their own progress if they want to or they can participate in an individual challenge such as the sea2sea challenge.
